Color is a powerful tool. The right color combo can direct your mind to a mood, a moment, or a memory. These five ads use inspiring spring color palettes to arouse ideas of blossoms, sunshine, and all the fresh new life we associate with the season.

Tiffany lets the sun shine

Why it works for spring

This spring color palette by Tiffany & Co. proves you don’t have to stray from your brand to be seasonal. Classic Tiffany blue and glittery gray are pushed into springtime by canary yellows. My brain goes to straight to robin’s eggs, sunny skies, and gold foil-wrapped Easter chocolates. When used well, as it is here, this color combo evokes the best of spring vibes without being cliché.

Fendi is muted and moody

Why it works as for spring

This Fendi ad shows off one of this year’s most popular spring color palettes. Its desaturated pinks, creams, and blush tones combine with taupe and grey to create a distinctly un-glam look. By holding back on the brightness, this color scheme reflects the expectancy of spring. Temperatures are rising, but we haven’t totally shaken off winter yet. (Note, the colors will look more vibrant if you encounter the ad digitally versus in print.)

Old Navy plays with pastels

Why it works for spring

This spring color palette from Old Navy is as classic as a bouquet of wildflowers. Though arguably childish, you can’t deny that these colors evoke spring in its purest form. Pretty petal pink, yummy tangerine, and sunny yellow are well-paired with sage green and steely blue gray. The keys to using this color combo are moderation and balance. Try inserting some darker shades to allow the eye to rest and always allow plenty of white space.

J.Crew goes greens

Why it works for spring

Everything about the colors in this J.Crew ad screams, “Springtime is here!” The greens have strong yellow undertones so they appear fresh and grassy. These aren’t the blue-greens of the ocean in summer or the deep brown-greens of autumn foliage. No. These are the verdant shades of new growth. Notice the use of Pantone’s 2017 color of the year: Greenery.

Target is pretty in pink

Why it works for spring

Target shows the power of spring colors by using them on luggage. (Change the colors in your brain and you could have holiday ad instead.) Watery teal and turquoise complement soft mauve-y pink while grays anchor the image. This pink is particularly noteworthy. By leaning toward the peach end of the spectrum, it keeps the whole color palette sophisticated.
